Fun things in Jersey this weekend

Good morning folks,

Angie here! So I hope everyone is staying dry.The weather has been pretty nutty in Northern NJ. If we get any more rain, I am going to have to start pairing up the animals two by two.

Hopefully, the weather is going to dry and heat up by the weekend. The warm weekends are limited to Summer and we have to squeeze all the fun in whenever possible.

So that I know of, there are two events going on in Northern NJ this weekend that Im pretty excited to attend. If you see me, say hi!

Event # 1
Portuguese Festival
When: June 12th, 13th, 14th 2009
Where: All Along Ferry St (Ironbound Section) Newark, NJ 07105

Both Lauren and I grew up in the Ironbound Section of Newark, NJ. We have lived off of Spanish/Portuguese BBQ for years. The festival starts off tomorrow at Iberia's resturant on Ferry St. Don't get confused there are two Iberia's. Go to the one with the parking lot for Portuguese food and drinks. This party starts off the festival. The next two days are filled with floats, food, dancing, and partying in the streets.

Though I don't live in the Ironbound anymore. I visit there more than one a week. I still love the cafes and resturants. Plus all my awesome friends live there. The beauty of the Ironbound is the diversity. There is Portuguese, Ecuadorian, Brazilian and other various ethnic groups. We all coexist(ed) in this little spot in NJ and seem to get along. The neighborhoods, always smelled like food and you could walk everywhere. Including the ever fabulous PATH train station that takes you to NYC for only $1.75. I remember the days when it was only $1.00 :/ Alright, Alright. I don't want to show my age too much teehee :)

So, the feast will be going on this weekend. If you are free and looking for awesome food, lots of vendors selling various goodies and liquior. This is your spot. Just take warning, the feast gets crowded, like intensely crowded. I stood in one spot for ten minutes a few years back. If you are claustrophobic go early!

Oh yea, please visit the Dish network tent. They love catering to the Brazilian/Portuguese/Worldwide market and the soccer championships are soon coming!!! Let give them some business. http://www.dishnetwork.com/

Event # 2
Cupcake Festival 2009
When: June 13th, 2009
Where: Lincoln Park in Rutherford, NJ
Time: 2pm-8pm

I believe this is the second annual cupcake Festival in Rutherford, NJ.

It is being hosted by the Sweet Avenue Bake shop, http://www.sweetavenuebakeshop.com/.

This bakery offers vegan and organic cupcakes, cookies in a cute botique setting. They are located at 153 Park Ave, Rutherford NJ. Follow their twitter, so you can see all the awesome stuff going on. http://twitter.com/sweet_avenue

The festival will offer free (mini)cupcakes and music. All donations will also be going to the Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City, NJ. So bring anything you are willing to donate ie dog toys, kitty toys, old towels, cleaning supplies, dry food and etc. Plus, there are gonig to be some awesome gifts being given away.

So that is all for today's post. I have work to do :P

::Brush the Dust Off::

Ok, we didnt forgot about this blog. Work has been crazy for both Lauren and I :)
She is making it through her year end and I finished mine up about a month ago.

The life of the corporate ladies...

So memorial day weekend is almost here. The office is empty and there isn't too much going on!
I expect the parkway to be a parking lot this weekend. I hope everyone gets to their destinations safe and sound to enjoy the bbqs.

Tomorrow Lauren and I will be doing and "Out of Jersey" Adventure. Occasionally we seek outside entertainment from our home state. Sssshhhh don't tell anyone.
We are off to Philly for the day to munch of yummy food, do some tourist like things and do a bit of girly shopping.

For the weekend, I plan to be down at the shore in Atlantic City to see the BuckCherry show with Matt. So I hope to have a great update of a Jersey shore weekend and all the fun things I find to do down there. :)

Guilty Pleasure of the week: The real housewives of NJ.
It had the highest ratings of the Real housewives series with 1.5 million viewers.
Though every makes fun of Jersey, they sure love to know what the state is up to!

Happy (early) Memorial Day weekend

The Newark Musum's Centennial Celebration 2009

The Newark Museum's Centennial Celebration 2009 April 23rd-April 26th 2009.

I have been going to the Newark Museum since I was a wee troublemaker...it holds the most special place in my heart. It has random art in the back of the lawn. A centuries old schoolhouse, A Buddhist temple, and awesome exhibits. My favorite part as a kid was pretending I live in the Ballentine house and that I was rich. HA!

The Newark Museum is celebrating 100 years of being a gem in the Newark Community. Starting today, there will be various events going on through the weekend.

Today there is facing painting and other activities going on.
On April 25th, it is dinosaur day from 10-4:30pm

(RollerDerby 2009) The Ironbound Maidens vs The Hudson Valley Horrors in Newark, NJ

It's that time of year again...bring out your best game face and come out and Support Women's Rollerderby. It's the Ironbound Maidens versus the Hudson Valley Horrors.

When: April 24th Doors open at 8 pm, Game starts at 9 pm
Where: Branch Brooke Park Roller Rink Newark, NJ
Price: $10 in advance, $12 at the door

Yep, I am a hardcore Rollerderby fan. Who would have thought a a sweet girl from Newark, could fall so hard for the game. Last season I tried to make every Garden State Roller girl game. I was unsuccessful but it is a whole new season to make up for the losses :)

I look forward to a whole new season of jammers, pushing, awesomely cool derby names, tumbles, falls, shouting, screaming and live music from guys in spacesuits. If you are looking for a good source of entertainment come on out to the game. The rink has parking and security. You won't regret it.

Come out and support The Garden State Roller Girls.
Tickets could be brought on their website.
